I have recently been working on a series of drawings inspired by medieval manuscripts, folk art, and country music – assembled together on sheets of paper and rendered in pencil. With delicately wrought frames and densely layered graphite, the work is meticulous and meditative – creating alters to both archaic wisdom and contemporary art. I have driven across the country and back earlier this year, which has additionally informed the work I’ve been making most recently. Utilizing personal photographs, bumper stickers, billboards, seasonal flora and regional lore as source material – the end result functions as a record of time, place, and emotion.
